Skydiver jumps from a capsule 13 miles high

Felix Baumgartner sits inside a pressurized capsule before his test jump for Red Bull Stratos over Roswell, New Mexico, on March 15, 2012. A hot air balloon lifted the capsule to a height of 13.60 miles over New Mexico which was above the troposphere and within the stratosphere. For his next jump, Baumgartner plans on breaking the world record for the highest jump by traveling 23 miles up into the stratosphere.

NME Knife & Tool

Batch number two of our BWB-01T 6Al/4V titanium 1911 bushing wrench bottle openers, fresh out of the tumbler. These will be available at www.zodiaceng.com/nme shortly.

These spent that last day and a half in our vibratory tumbler. Typically we leave parts in for around ten hours, but being titanium and designed for pocket/keychain carry, we left them in extra long for a heavy edge break on all edges.

Large ceramic media with a handful of small resin and a splash of Simple Green was used for these. The ceramic was used to break the edges and give a stone washed finish. Small green resin added to get in the tight spaces and further improve surface finish. Simple Green was added to lubricate the media and parts as well as wash everything as it tumbled.

Female Coaster Axle

Coaster axle shortened to just under 110mm, drilled thru and threaded 3/8-24. The diameter behind the ball spring plungers was turned and polished to allow the use of a thrust bearing behind the clutch instead of the aluminum slack spacer. This helps reduce drag.

The van behind it is barely noticeable next to the gigantic stature of the moving vehicle. Named the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), it involves an international project spearheaded by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency and NASA, with participation of the German Aerospace Center DLR. The SRTM consists of a specially modified radar system that will gather data for the most accurate and complete topographic map of the Earth’s surface that has ever been assembled.
