• About Zodiac Engineering

Zodiac Engineering is a passion project based in Huntington Beach, California. The focus is on designing and producing small-batch, precision-made items for pocket carry, with primary emphasis on pocket knives.

Each run receives full in-house attention, including CAD design, multi-axis CNC programming, workholding, machining, extensive hand finishing, assembly, and final quality inspection. While Zodiac Engineering is not formally certified, full traceability is maintained through an AS9100D-compliant Quality Management System, from material certificates to certificates of conformance.

  • About Ken Spaulding

Ken Spaulding is a manufacturing engineer with over twenty years in Aerospace and Defense. His experience spans CNC programming, workholding, quality processes, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, mechanical gaging per ASME Y14.43, and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA), all under applicable AS/ISO/ITAR/FAR/DFARS regulations.

His current work outside of Zodiac Engineering centers on development and manufacturing of small turbojet engines for unmanned aerial vehicles. Responsibilities include process development, equipment selection and commissioning, MES development and integration, and implementation of an AS9100D and AS13100 Quality Management System within a vertically integrated factory.

Zodiac Engineering applies the same technical foundation and process controls to these carry items. The drive comes from using high-precision manufacturing methods normally reserved for complex aerospace assemblies on objects that are carried and used daily.

  • Quality Policy

Zodiac Engineering is committed to superior workmanship, clear and responsive communication, and continual improvement to ensure compliance without compromise.
